Volunteer Opportunities

Baldwin County VOAD employs one paid staff member. The remainder of its staff is comprised of leadership volunteers who make up its Board of Directors. Directors are nominated from the membership and are elected annually.

Volunteer opportunities exist within Baldwin County VOAD's member agencies. Agencies need help with administrative duties, case management, CERT response, disaster and first aid response, and spiritual counseling. Some volunteer positions require specific training.

Administration and Clerical

Performs administrative duties to help paid staff. Responsibilities may include answering calls, taking messages, and assisting clients with basic referral information. Some computer and internet research skills are helpful. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of paid and volunteer management and staff, as well as clients.   Confidentiality is a must.  Some volunteer jobs will require background checks.


Case Management

Provides and coordinates social services to clients and their families. Assesses client's basic and in-depth psychosocial, financial, cultural, and family situation.

Manages a complex patient caseload and demonstrates expert ability to coordinate and implement management services. Finds community resources for potential sources of assistance and helps client establish and maintain contact with community resource providers.

Periodically reviews case progress and determines when case is closed. Confidentiality is a must. Some volunteer jobs have specific educational requirements. Some volunteer jobs will require background checks.


CERT Training -- Community Emergency Response Team

Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency strongly encourages individuals to become better trained to handle emergencies by offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training:

CERT training will:

  • Educate individuals about Disaster Preparedness for hazards that may impact their area;
  • Trains individuals in basic disaster response skills, such as:
    • Disaster Medical Operations (First aid, triage and treatment)
    • Fire Safety
    • Light Search & Rescue
    • Incident Command System (team organization)
    • Disaster Psychology
    • Terrorism

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their families, neighbors, and/or co-workers following an emergency in the event professional responders are not immediately available to help.

This training is offered exclusively through Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency


Disaster Response

Responds to all phases of disaster including preparation, response and recovery. This is a hands-on field-work position. Volunteers may be assigned to mass care feeding, working at shelters or delivering goods to affected areas. Volunteers may be asked to complete forms provided by national organizations. Volunteers may be asked to teach classes and train others to respond to disasters.

Good interpersonal skills required. Confidentiality is a must. Some volunteer jobs have specific educational requirements. Some volunteer jobs will require background checks.


First Aid

First Aid classes including CPR, AED operation and response, and HIV/Aids classes are available. Some classes have a nominal charge. Opportunities to teach classes are also available. Some volunteer jobs have specific educational requirements. Some volunteer jobs will require background checks.
